Tidewater School presents: The Quality of Childhood. A series of three educational evenings for parents, teachers and the whole village raising our children.
The second in the series will be: The Soul of Discipline.

Kim John Payne, family counsellor and educator, discusses discipline styles and how they have changed over the years, from the old blind obedience to behavior modifications based on punishment and reward, or even to our present-day behavior affirmation (the "good job" culture). Payne observes how these influences flow into our family and classroom life today. While these tools have their place, this presentation will set out three cumulative discipline phases. First, training creative compliance for the young child; second, building emotional skills for the elementary age and last, for the teenager, managing critical choices. Tickets: $10 in advance, or $12 at the door. All events will start at 7:00 pm and will take place at South Church, 292 State Street, Portsmouth.
